Yarn Talk | Knit Picks Shine Sport

One of my all-time favorites, Shine Sport is a blend of 60% Pima Cotton and 40% Model (natural Beech wood fibre) which gives cotton a lustrous depth and silky appearance.  It knits to a smooth and soft fabric and is perfect for baby and children’s garments and blankets as it’s machine washable as well. Finished projects have great drape, and feel really like silk.

And this yarn is super soft – love how it feels to work with it!

When You Out of 1 Skein…

One of thousand reasons why I adore craft community and so blessed to be a part of it! ⠀

Usually I buy more than enough yarn for any project, but I did not expected that Kristin will ask for pretty boxy sweater so I run out of a skein – one… single skein of CoBaSi in natural color 003 from dye lot #17. I did not see any problem and ordered couple skeins from same Little Knits yarn store. But oh my, the skeins from lot #21 looked too different and so pinkish than my original. ⠀ ⠀

I tried to find yarn from the same lot, but no luck. So, I found and ordered yarn from several places: Webs, Ravelry, eBay, Jimmy Beans Wool with a hope that at least one of them will match. Can you the differences? ⠀

And… while waiting my yarn orders, I got a note from Linda Lynn (Abundant Yarn Online, www.abundant-yarn.com), that she has 2 partial leftover skeins from dye lot 17, totaling 65 grams, that she would be happy to send me! YAY! So, I was able to finish Kristin’s sweater right before Christmas! Oh, and Linda refused to charge me for yarn, just shipping costs. ⠀

And, then ladies from LittleKnits.com found two skeins from the same dye lot 17 too! ⠀

Thank you so much dear ladies from me and my Kristin!!! You are the best!!!😍😍😍 ⠀ ⠀

Yarn Talk | Jade Sapphire Silk Cashmere

My very first experience with silk & cashmere yarn. Seriously. After over 30 years of knitting and crocheting…
Seems I just did not come across a good reason to try my hands on cashmere. For kids designs I love high quality cotton, bamboo and silk blends without wool because of sensitive skin and allergy little cuties may have. For myself, just about month ago I crocheted a first tunic in last 10 years. Many thanks Interweave Crochet team for motivation!
So, searching yarn for a sweater for our good friend I fell in love with Jade Sapphire silk & cashmere 2 ply yarn immediately… even if my first experience with this yarn was not such successful 😎
🙈 First, I found only 5 hanks in color I wanted (I needed about 6-6.5).
🙈 Then I was lucky to find one more hank, but from different lot. I knew that shade may vary, but I did not expected that here will be such a huge difference. So, I ordered a hank of contrasting black and got a new design idea 💡
🙈 Last, and totally my fault – I made not enough bid swatch to notice the difference in size after wet blocking. The result is loose fit sweater instead of slim fit.
Anyway, I am still in love with this yarn and:
👌🏻Found a perfect gauge, which is after blocking almost didn’t change.
👌🏻Ordered and tested two more yarn-options for this project: Jade Sylph (linen & cashmere blend for more strength) and CoBaSi (cotton/silk/bamboo blend for summer version and not that expensive yarn)
👌🏻 Wrote the pattern for size M, but I need to resize and test it first with CoBaSi 🧶. Seems, our friend will get another sweater in near future – probably a bit in different style …and slim fitted as we planned 😉
