Rows of scallop edging add both style and depth, letting the piece drape beautifully any way it is worn. Trim it with soft green satin ribbon and matching ladybug accents, for a sweet spring touch.

IMAGINE THIS: Use the popcorn edging of the Tropicana Blanket for added texture. Opt for wool or mohair yarn to make a blanket suitable for colder weather. You can even add metallic or silvery threads to make this blanket the perfect holiday gift!

Imagical Seasons: New Patterns, Giveaway + MORE!

I’m so excited to share with you all a sneak peek of my very first book. Although it seems that the amount of work to be done is still endless and I still need to learn lots of new skills and things, I’m so glad that I started this book venture! I’m absolutely sure that I would do this again, especially if I will be teaming up again with incredible Tin Ambat and Annya Uslontseva! Tin’s brilliant descriptions and Anna’s fantastic book layout have made the book look great, even if it is still a draft version and only 1/3 of it is done…

So, let me introduce:

Imagical SeasonsTM: Crochet Couture for Kids 2-12 years

Imaginative and magical designs for little ones in your life.

… where Imagical is a portmanteau word – a combination of “imagine” and “magical”. It describes perfectly what I want to achieve: coming up with unique ideas and designs, and making them a reality through the application of basic crochet and knitting skills…

Alla Koval Designs

Yes, it’s official! :)

First of all, many thanks for your patience and sorry for being away from my blog. Work on first book seems endless, but I’m pretty excited to see how it turned out and hope back to normal schedule somewhere in near future …or so ;o)

I’m so glad to letting you know that I’ve just got back edited Kristal collection, which is a part of my book, but we agreed that I’ll make it available as soon as possible ;o) Not to mention that you will see a sneak peek of book layout and find a book name on these pattern’s pages!

Kristal collection includes 5 designs, based on an idea to use same square motif in so many different ways—watch this lovely motif transform magically from a simple circle of stitches into an eight-petaled flower, then into a diamond, and finally into a gorgeous lace square! Work it in a single color for a pristine effect, or in combinations of different colors to highlight the changes in the pattern. Use different yarn weight and hook sizes to change the finished motif’s size. Even better, join it to other motifs as you go, and keep sewing to a minimum. As versatile as it is beautiful, the motif lends itself to several of the projects scheduled to be released this week:

Trade Secrets à la Koval. Gauge Swatch

Making sure your stitches are consistently the right size is very important when crocheting. And even if I perfectly understand it, I always hated to do that boring part – checking the crochet gauge… until I found pretty comfy and easier for me (and not least—much faster!) way to do it: work 3 full rows of swatch to check number of stitches and then continue work only on first 6-8 stitches (leaving rem sts unworked) to check rows gauge.

You may already be familiar with some of these tricks and sure I may not be the first to employ or invest these techniques, but I will be glad if you find something new and useful here.

If you have how-to-questions about techniques I use in my patterns, please feel free to ask them here and I’ll do my best to create the tutorial or give helpful tips at least.

Happy Monday everyone!! Have a wonderful week, even if…

Wonder what is new with your book and my schedule? By the moment I feel exhausted a bit, but happy – two projects for publication are done (and third, last one is on my schedule in the middle of September). On Monday I’ll start to work on next book collection, yay!! I bet – it will be your favorite one! ;o)

But first – a little break and on my schedule for next two days… well, whatever ;o)

Featured Yarn 39. Omega Trigo. Cotton

What a lovely mercerized cotton with such interesting texture! Mona sent me a skein of Trigo to try and I liked this yarn so much (and 2 designs for my book already made with this one ;o). The only thing, they had not enough colors of this yarn. But now some bright and lovely new colors added, yay! This yarn is great for delicate blankets and kids garments as well and for modern and fun projects.

Thursday’s Moments. New Lens

Dryad

Yes, I know – Thursday is tomorrow, but I can’t resist to introduce my new baby – very first “adult” lens: AF_S DX Micro NIKKOR 85mm f/3.5G ED VR.

I bet, most of my friends-photographers will laugh that I call this lens “adult”, but it’s really a first one I own and so happy with!! ;o) Many Thanks Anatoliy for the tip and Sergey for the help to find this one!!

Above is one of very fist pictures, and taken without tripod and not edited in Ps (just cropped). Now, I’m off to find out where is my tripod and play with my baby, yay!!

BTW, this is also a sneak peek of Dryad vest & jacket, but in green shades. I like green version too. Made with such soft and smooth to the touch, Shine Sport Yarn by Knit Picks, this skirt pattern can be easily turned into scarf for lady of any age. The pattern is done, but unfortunately my tech editors are not available until middle of August, so there will be a little delay with release. My apologies.  I’ll keep you updated!

And if you wonder what is my on my hook now – I’ve submitted two designs to one crochet magazine, and now working on patterns and samples to be timely… Looks as 2013 going to be exciting year with several exiting publications. So far I’ve done: a jacket design for one crochet book, 5 accessories designs for another crochet book, two designs for crochet magazine (well, in progress ;) and 1/3 of my own very first crochet book!! To be continue ;o)
